It was a privilege to be part of the panel at the Red Cross event, Red Connect Tasmania – Local Stories Sparking Action at the Moonah Arts Centre.

I really valued the opportunity to share the story of Choir of High Hopes Hobart and reflect on how something as simple as singing together can create powerful social connections.
The choir is about much more than music, it is about belonging, inclusion and creating a space where people from very different walks of life can come together, build confidence and support one another.
Seeing how community-led initiatives like this can change lives in very practical ways is always worth talking about.
It was equally inspiring to hear the other local stories shared throughout the evening. Each showed in different ways how small, consistent actions, whether through volunteering, community programs or simply creating welcoming spaces, can have a lasting impact.
Events like this are a great reminder that strong communities are built through participation, compassion and people willing to step forward and contribute.
Thank you to the Red Cross team for bringing these conversations together, and to everyone who attended and shared their experiences. It was a positive, thoughtful and energising event that highlighted the very best of Tasmania’s community spirit. 🎶
