At this Monday’s Hobart City Council meeting, councillors will consider how to better activate City Hall, a conversation that is both necessary and long overdue.
Despite its central location, City Hall remains underutilised and increasingly outdated as a functional events venue.
If activation is the goal, the focus must be on practical improvements like modern facilities, better acoustics and making the venue easier to operate for events.
Seeking an experienced anchor tenant is a sensible step. A professional operator with a clear focus on increasing usage could help turn potential into real activity.
Hobart has no shortage of plans. What matters now is delivery. A more active City Hall should mean a stronger CBD, more vibrancy and better outcomes for the community.
