Dark Mofo Delivers for Hobart

Dark Mofo has once again shown the value of major events to Hobart’s economy, with Hobart Airport recording around 100,000 airline seats during the two-week festival period and Dark Mofo drawing about 550,000 entries across its venues.

These numbers matter. They mean more people staying in hotels, eating in restaurants, visiting bars, using taxis and rideshare, shopping in local businesses and experiencing Hobart during what has traditionally been a quieter time of year.

Dark Mofo has helped turn winter into one of Hobart’s great strengths. Instead of seeing the colder months as a challenge, the festival has shown how culture, creativity and major events can bring energy into the city and support local jobs.

For Hobart, the lesson is clear. We need to keep backing events that bring people into the city, activate our streets and support small business.

A vibrant city does not happen by accident. It needs investment, confidence and a council that understands the link between events, tourism, hospitality and the local economy.

Dark Mofo is not just good for the arts. It is good for Hobart.
