Kelly’s Steps are still being trashed by e-scooters. I first raised this issue four years ago, and despite repeated warnings and clear evidence of damage, the only response has been the installation of a sign — which riders routinely ignore.
Since then, sandstone blocks have had to be replaced, and fresh cracks are already appearing, indicating that further repairs are inevitable and the underlying problem remains unaddressed.
This is not accidental or unavoidable wear; it is repeated, reckless behaviour causing harm to a heritage-listed structure and should be recognised as vandalism.
💰 How much have previous repairs already cost, and how often are they being repeated?
🙋 Who is actually paying for this ongoing damage — ratepayers, council budgets, or heritage funds?
📍 Given that e-scooters are GPS-trackable, how many riders have been identified, fined, suspended, or banned for riding on Kelly’s Steps, and why isn’t this data being made public?
