At the Planning Authority Committee meeting on Wednesday 21 January, approval was granted for the redevelopment of the former WIN Television site at 48–50 and 52 New Town Road, New Town. The decision clears the way for a major mixed-use project on the long-vacant land.
The $35 million proposal includes 23 residential dwellings and 38 short-stay visitor accommodation units, along with a range of complementary uses. These include a café at ground level and consulting rooms, a gym, and wellness facilities — including a pool — located on the lower ground floor.
Parking will be provided within a lower ground floor car park containing 67 car spaces and four motorcycle spaces. Although councillors discussed matters such as parking numbers, building height and potential overshadowing, the application was ultimately supported unanimously.
The development is designed as six separate buildings connected by covered walkways and integrated landscaping. Outdoor features will include a central village green and rooftop garden areas. Conditions relating to contaminated land management must be satisfied before construction can begin.
