I will push for the first two hours of parking to be free in Council’s Argyle Street, Centrepoint and Hobart Central car parks.
An hour can be a rush when you are shopping, attending an appointment or catching up with friends. Two hours would give people more time to spend in our city and support local shops, cafés and other businesses.
The proposal needs to be properly costed, with the impact on Council’s budget clearly identified and considered alongside my commitment to responsible spending.
This would form part of my broader push to improve traffic flow, parking and access, including restoring turning lanes and fixing street changes that are not working.
I want to make it easier for people to visit Hobart, stay longer and support our local economy.
